Canoe Alaska Outdoor Rentals is owned and operated by Josh Davis. The business began as a retail store, in 1975, operated by his parents, Ron and Lou, and his older brother, Todd. Seeing the need for instruction on the river, CanoeAlaska started teaching canoe and kayak lessons. The program expanded to running guided canoe trips on the Interior rivers of Alaska. Josh spent his childhood helping with canoe classes and running wilderness river trips with his parents. At age 18, Josh became a certified canoe instructor. He spent that summer teaching whitewater canoeing in North Carolina. The following year he returned to CanoeAlaska for a summer to devote his time to teaching classes and guiding wilderness river trips. Josh went on to pursue other activities while his parents continued the business until they retired in 2000.
