Chip and Michelle Upton purchased “The Wharf” in February of 1991. The booth consisted of a box with umbrellas and the rental fleet was a few pedal boats and some snorkel gear. The Upton’s changed the name to Wet Spot Rentals; rebuilt the booth and the float and began their summer business. They were the first company to introduce kayaks to the Catalina Island rental market and they continue to improve and expand the business each season. Their two sons, Michael and Zack began as dock boys once they were old enough to swim and you can still find the family working together on busy summer days. Wet Spot Rentals truly is a family run business.
