Havre De Grace

401 Concord St, Havre de Grace, MD 21078, United States

In 2014, Smithsonian Magazine voted Havre de Grace one of the 20 Best Small Towns to Visit! The history of Havre de Grace begins with the voyage of Captain John Smith in 1608, but it was the Marquis de Lafayette that was said to have exclaimed, “C’est Le Havre!”. It reminded him of the French port city Le Havre (originally called Le Havre de Grace) and today, it is still a "Harbor of grace". In 1813 Havre de Grace was attacked by the British and nearly burned to the ground. Only a few structures survived, which are now marked with bronze plaques. Concord Point Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in Maryland that is accessible to the public. It is also the northern most lighthouse on the Chesapeake bay.
