Block Island's only town is New Shoreham and has the distinction of being the smallest town in the smallest state.  Block Island is just under 10 square miles and is located approximately 13 miles south of mainland Rhode Island across Block Island Sound. Block Island was called  "the Little God’s Island" by the Manisses indians (we are also called the 'Bermuda of the North'), and is home to about 900 year round residents.  We also have become the site of the first offshore wind farm
