Community Boating Inc

Located on the Charles River Esplanade between the Hatch Memorial Shell and the Longfellow Bridge, Community Boating is the oldest public sailing organization in the United States. We have inspired community sailing programs around the country, and the image of dinghies floating on the Charles has become a classic symbol of Boston. Still, our founding mission of offering affordable, accessible Sailing For All is starkly unchanged.Community Boating Inc. is a private, not-for-profit 501(c)3 corporation, offering programming for adults, youth, and individuals needing special assistance. In addition to our membership programs, Community Boating offers a variety of our watercraft for rental along with our facilities for business and corporate events.

Our facilities are unique - a Louisiana Riverboat berthed at Lewis Wharf on Boston Harbor. Just a short walk north of Faneuil Hall Marketplace, our floating classroom and clubhouse is an excellent venue for parties and other functions. We're also close to a wide variety of historical sites, restaurants and nighttime entertainment spots. Public parking is available nearby. From the Riverboat, we enjoy unrestricted sailing along Boston's historic waterfront and beyond, including day sails among the beautiful Boston Harbor islands, overnight trips to Marblehead and longer sails to destinations like Provincetown, Martha's Vineyard and Newport.

The marina is located in a secure, protected bay, right on the Freedom Trail in the Charlestown neighborhood of Boston. We are just a 5-minute walk from North Station and TD Garden, convenient to water transportation, all major highways, Logan Airport and the many great things Boston has to offer. The USS Constitution Museum is ranked No. 5 among the publication’s 10 best history museums in America. The Constitution Museum and "Old Ironsides" is just a few minute's walk next door from Constitution Marina. We are also just 2.4 miles from Encore Casino Boston Harbor. It is just a short ride via taxi or ride-share or a brief water taxi ride that will pick you up at the dock and shuttle you to Encore Casino docks.

Boating in Boston features gorgeous boathouses all across the greater Boston area waiting to launch you on your next kayaking, canoeing, sailing or paddleboarding adventure. The story actually starts in 2002, in our small New England hometown of Hopkinton, Massachusetts. That’s where a charismatic man named Barry began the boating vision by opening Outdoor Recreation of Hopkinton, a kayak rental concession in Hopkinton State Park. The word started getting around and the business grew and grew, bringing forth a community of water lovers. And soon Barry was introducing sailing and summer camps and boating season passes to the park.

It’s hard to describe a day with Nantasket Kayaks without making it sound like a paradise. The sunshine’s warm and the breeze is light. Between the sounds of the water and birds, everything feels at peace. There’s even time to explore or swim at World’s End if you’re feeling a little adventurous. There’s always something unique to experience around here. If it’s all new to you, don’t fret. Our owner, Scott, and the rest of our crew is happy to give some training with every rental.

Charles River Recreation is dedicated to providing affordable and accessible outdoor recreational opportunities in the Boston, Massachusetts metropolitan area. Today we operate Charles River Canoe & Kayak (offering canoe, kayak and paddleboard sales, classes, guided trips, and multiple rental locations), Weston Ski Track (located at the Leo J. Martin Golf Course in Weston and offering cross-country skiing and instruction on groomed, lighted trails), and Kendall Square Community Ice Skating (a refrigerated, Zamboni-maintained ice skating rink in Kendall Square, Cambridge).
